Electronics

The goal of robotic swarms is to build tiny robots with electronics designed to minimize the power consumption and space while maximizing computing power, efficiency and throughput. PIC 18F4520, produced by Microchip Inc., provides nanowatt power managed modes. It also offers 10 MIPS performance and C compiler optimized RISC architecture.

All the electronics is mounted on one printed circuit board (PCB). This 10 x 10 cm PCB houses the microcontroller, the power supply, motor driver, gyroscope and connections for the sensors such as dead zone switches and three ultrasonic sensors.

Each electronic device used for the robot swarm is explained in brief:

Motors

Encoders

Ultrasonic Sensors

Dead-Zone Switches

Gyroscope
